There's plenty of Jay-Z mash up albums. Some good, some bad. "American G-Funk" by Dj Benzi and The Knocks ....Really good! I'm posting two tracks off the album. "I Know" which has Jay mashed up with David Bowie's "Fame" and my favorite track off the album "The Party Life". I don't know what the original track is but it takes Jay on a soulful, jazzy ride. This is boogie hop...
Believe it or not this stud from the UK can produce killer synth funk boogie instrumentals. His track "Funkin' Up" was released in 2004! Who needs 80's funk when you got Eddie Craig
This is a beat I made last year. I sampled The Whispers track "Fantasy", flippin it from a down-tempo soul ballad into some Motown boogie hop. The artwork above is from a compilation I made. It has all my favorite Whispers tracks. A must have for Disco-Funk fans!
Bobby Nunn is the man! He got his start playing synthesizer for Rick James. Then moved on to do solo work for Motown in the 80's. He does sound like Rick James but to me he sounds a lot like Prince. The three tracks I'm posting are off his 1982 album "Second to Nunn" and not "Private Party" (Pictured Above). That picture is just too good not to show. I mean cmon, look at that face. Your gonna love this guys cheesy synth funk jams...
This album is very rare and verry good! The genre is called "Italo Boogie" because these Italians really knew how to make boogie funk! "Good Time" is a super fun song off their album "For You" from 1981. Enjoy!
I can do nothin' but daydream! Look how cool this guy is. Nice upbeat funky soul by Leon Haywood. Off his LP "Naturally" from 1980. I'll be posting a lot more of Leon :)
Good ol' Kenny James singing "Gimme A Little Sign". Try not to sing a long to this chorus. I bet you can't do it. This track has got me dancing around my room like a little school girl.
Let me introduce you to DCUP. He's cool, smart, sexy (homo) and he's into boogie funk. Hmmm..sounds a lot like me. Except theirs one thing...he's an amazing producer! Theirs a handful of artists doing the nu-disco thing right now but this guy stands out from all of them. The way he incorporates samples into his original compositions is genius. Here is three tracks from the man himself.
From 1981 ft. Cuba Gooding (yup, the father of Cuba Gooding Jr.) This track is a disco boogie banger!!! Database and Midnight Martyn did an EDIT of this which is pretty dope but the original is just too good.
This song completely sums up "Boogie Hop". You got the smooth rap vocals of Snoop Dogg's "Signs" with Chazz's 1981 funky ass boogie classic, "Dancing Shoes". A great mash up by Neighbourhood Romeo which consists of Neighbour and Wax Romeo. "Dancin Snoops" is one of the tracks off their promo mix Cigarette Olympics This song is sure to get you dancin'...
I've created this blog to show my love for Funk and Hip Hop music.
I'll be posting boogie, funk, disco, hip hop and plenty of mash ups. I hope you make this blog one of your regulars.
I'm not a very good writer so let's just get to the music...
The title explains it all. A journey through original funk and soul that has been sampled for modern day hip hop songs. I sent this mix to GMGN and they had some very nice words to say. "Great collection, so many classic memories of tracks, also a great reminder that these artists were truly brilliant and creative, creating such great music from scratch. Also, inspiring for us producers at the same time. Love this lil mix, nice work, my friend." So with that said, enjoy the mix!
