"I Am Somebody" is definitely the stand out track on the album and I think I discovered the original track they interpolated. 80's synth funkster, O'Bryan and his track "Soul Train's A Comin". It could be just a coincidence they sound similar but I have a feeling Chromeo were inspired by this track. You can decide..

I love hearing disco edits of rare 80's gems. Friend is a disco edit master! Theirs not much info on this guy but I know hes from London and he's a very versatile producer. From disco edits to obscure Chinese sounding Hip Hop, he's definitely doin his own thing. I'm posting two of his demos called "Secret" and "Celebration". Two fantastically fun disco jams. I could do without the kids vocals on "Secret" but the way he chopped up Con Funk Shun is perfect. "Celebration" is a bouncy synth funk jam that is undeniably addictive. I don't know what the original track is but I'm sure I'll find it along my funky trails.

Bobby Nunn is the man! He got his start playing synthesizer for Rick James. Then moved on to do solo work for Motown in the 80's. He does sound like Rick James but to me he sounds a lot like Prince. The three tracks I'm posting are off his 1982 album "Second to Nunn" and not "Private Party" (Pictured Above). That picture is just too good not to show. I mean cmon, look at that face. I've created this blog to show my love for Funk and Hip Hop music.

I'll be posting boogie, funk, disco, hip hop and plenty of mash ups. I hope you make this blog one of your regulars.

I'm not a very good writer so let's just get to the music...



The title explains it all. A journey through original funk and soul that has been sampled for modern day hip hop songs. I sent this mix to GMGN and they had some very nice words to say.
"Great collection, so many classic memories of tracks, also a great reminder that these artists were truly brilliant and creative, creating such great music from scratch. Also, inspiring for us producers at the same time. Love this lil mix, nice work, my friend." So with that said, enjoy the mix!
